Reimagining how SimpliSafe customers select a system or build their own, choose a monitoring plan, and check out with ease with zero regrets.

Background

SimpliSafe is a disruptor. They turned the home security market on its head with thier DIY (do it yourself) solution initially designed for renters in 2009.

They approached Full Nelsen in 2021 to help address the numerous UX problems that were piling up over the years, bluesky some new opportunities, and help make a strategic design hire.

We started with the arguably the most important part of an Ecommerce site, the checkout experience. Since most of their customers enter on mobile, we started there and significantly cleaned up the experience.

Problem

Andy Nelson, Sr. Director of Ecommerce at SimpliSafe, was re-platforming the site in 2020, laying a foundation of a modern headless, micro-services based architecture, and assembling an expert team.

As he made key hires and shed the Drupal shackles, he set sites on finding the first design leader solely focused on the sales experience.

They’d been encumbered by tech debt for years and their sales funnel was dated and suffering.

We expertly took the new look and feel (developed mainly with marketing efforts in mind) and shaped it to create smart systems and components that made maintaining and spooling up new content a breeze.

What Happened

To start, Full Nelsen set to work at the cross section of delivering business and customer value - the cart and checkout.

From there, they moved backward through the funnel updating designs based on best practices learned from their years of ecommerce experience, user experience research, and competitive review.

As we worked, SimpliSafe’s recruiting team identified qualified applicants and portfolios for Adam to review and conduct design focused interviews.

Around this time, the SimpliSafe brand design team introduced an updated look and feel, mainly focused on marketing channels.
